Essential Tools for Baby Swim Lessons in the Bathtub

In our virtual baby swim lessons we always suggest having a couple things prepared to make the experience the best for you and your little one! Today, we’re diving into the essential tools that will make your virtual swim lessons effective and enjoyable. Let’s explore the must-have items that ensure a safe and engaging environment for your baby!

1. Floating Toys

Floating toys are not only a fun distraction but also an excellent tool for developing your baby’s motor skills and encouraging their natural curiosity about water. When choosing floating toys, consider the following criteria:

  • Chewable / Squishy: Babies love to explore with their mouths, so it’s important to select toys that are safe to chew. Squishy toys provide the perfect texture for teething gums.

  • Hole-free: To prevent mold growth, opt for toys without holes. This ensures they remain hygienic and safe for your baby.

  • Colourful: Bright, vibrant colours attract your baby’s attention and stimulate their developing vision.

  • Grabbable: Choose toys that are small enough to fit comfortably in your baby’s hands, making them easy to grab and hold.

Examples:

  • Munchkin Float and Play Bubbles: These delightful, hole-free bubbles are perfect for little hands and are designed to float and spin, captivating your baby’s attention.

  • Nuby Floating Bath Toys: These colourful, chewable toys are free from holes and easy for babies to grasp, making them ideal companions for bath time fun.

2. Cup

A simple cup is one of the most versatile tools in your bathtub swim lesson arsenal. It helps in getting your baby used to the sensation of water pouring over their body and is instrumental in teaching them how to control their breathing.

  • Bright Colour: Similarly to the toys, a vibrant cup will capture your baby’s attention, making the activity more engaging.

  • Tall: A tall cup holds more water, which is useful for rinsing and playing.

Example:

  • Any normal plastic cup from your kitchen!

  • Munchkin Waterfall Bath Rinser: This tall, brightly coloured cup is perfect for gentle rinsing and play, making it a favourite during bath time lessons.

3. No-Slip Bath Mat

Safety is paramount during bath time, and a no-slip bath mat is really helpful in this department. Since the bottom of the tub is used frequently during our lessons and your practice time, a good bath mat will prevent slipping and ensure a secure environment for your baby.

  • Good Suction: Ensures the mat stays firmly in place, even with lots of movement.

  • Enough Padding: Provides a comfortable surface for your baby to sit or lie on.

  • Good Length: Make sure it fits your tub properly, covering enough area to allow free movement.

Examples:

  • Skip Hop Moby Bath Mat: This mat features excellent suction and ample padding, designed to cover a large portion of the tub for maximum safety and comfort.

4. Swim Diapers & Wetsuits

For a hassle-free and clean bath time experience, swim diapers and wetsuits are invaluable. They not only help in preventing accidents but also keep your baby warm and comfortable, especially in cooler pool environments.

  • Happy Nappy Swim Diapers: These reusable swim diapers are fantastic for both bathtub and pool use, helping you avoid any soiling accidents.

  • Splash About Warm In One Wetsuit: Ideal for pool swimmers, this wetsuit provides extra warmth, ensuring your baby stays cozy and happy during their swim.

By incorporating these essential tools into your bathtub baby swim lessons, you’ll create a safe, engaging, and educational experience for your little one. Happy swimming from all of us at watermellow online bathtub baby swim lessons!
